To: Knox town residents,
In the name of the State of Maine, you are herby required to notify and warn the inhabitants of the Town of Knox in said county of Waldo, qualified to vote in town affairs, to meet at the Knox Town Office in such Town on Tuesday, July 25th, 2023, at 6:00pm, then and there to act upon the following articles:
Art 1: To choose a Moderator to preside at said meeting.
Art 2: To see if the town will vote to authorize expenditure of $100,000 for road work. The town has experienced increased anticipated work due to the December storm. Budget needs to be increased to covered said repairs.
Art 3: To see if the town will be in favor of making the payment to Bond. In error of omission to previous town meeting, a bond payment needs to be approved of $152,035 to avoid penalties and fees.
Art 4: To see if the town is in favor of adding $20,000 to the budget for an outside assessor. The town has hired an outside assessor to review and commit yearly property taxes. The budget will cover the yearly fees, as well as extra time for any corrections to previous years to be made.
Art 5: To see if the town approves of bringing back personal property taxes. In order to be compliant with the Maine constitution, we are required to bill personal property taxes. We will not be billing Personal property totaling $500 or less.
Art 6: To see if the town approves the First selectmen salary to go from $13,000 to $4,500. First selectmen salary was set higher as he also did town property assessment. Salary will lower with new assessor being hired.
Art 7: To see if the town is in favor of using the remaining ARPA Funds of $26,050.69 to install the electric sign.
Art 8: To adjourn the meeting Given under our hands this 6th day of July 2023.
